2008 LIZARD CANARY ASSOCIATION CLASSIC SHOW 25/10/08

Community Centre , Wollaton , Nottingham,  Nottinghamshire

2008 LCA CLASSIC SHOW REPORT

THE ALAN RAMSDEN MEMORIAL SHOW

The Lizard Canary Association held it 'flagship'  show on the 26 thof October at the  Wollaton Community Centre Nottingham and dedicated the show to the memory of our former Treasurer , Alan Ramsden , who sadly passed away earlier this year.

Judges , John Record & Jim Geeves (who stepped in at short notice ) . adjudicated  and Alans widow , Brenda ,was our special guest who presented the awards to the winners .

Recently , LCA stalwart David Alan , wrote that he had two ambitions , one to win the Classic & two, to someday Judge the Classic.

After judging was completed , David achieved one of those ambitions because his Clear Cap Silver Cock  was not only Best Champion but also Best Exhibit in Show .

There were  176 birds entered  with second best lizard going  to Stan Bolton with very nice Broken Cap Gold Hen showing good colour and very nice spangles. Stan also took 3rd best with a Clear Cap Gold Cock he also took 5th Best lizard with Non Cap Silver hen which also took the award for best Non Cap. 4th best went to David Allen again splitting up the Bolton dominance with a Broken cap silver hen, this bird had been runner-up to Stan last weekend at the East Anglian All Lizard show. This silver hen displayed lovely breast work and good spangles, but the judges commented that they felt it had a few marks on it feathers which put it back slightly, but never the less a worthy winner  of the 4th best spot .

The Novice section was well supported with 55 Novice exhibits and several exhibiting at the classic for the first time, notably Darren Lowe , Joe Coakley & Steve Twidle , the LCA hope that  you had an enjoyable day.

Best novice Lizard went to Sharon Kendall with a very nice clear cap gold hen, 2nd Novice went to Darren Lowe with a clear cap silver hen. This is Darren first year with Lizards so well done Darren. Best Broken cap went to Chris Jordon with a broken cap silver cock. The best over year novice went to Joe Coakley with an over-year gold cock.

Judge Jim geeves said that some of the classes he judged in the champion section were very close from 1 to7 and thought the quality was good but there was a few patchy birds in colour. John record said he felt that the classes he judged some could have done with little more show training as some were unsteady and difficult to judge. He felt the quality was not as good as in past years but he putt’s this down to the problem members had in obtaining colour food for their birds. On the novice section he said their was some nice Novice birds especially the main winners. The LCA would like to thank both John and Jim for judging the birds.

The LCA would also like to thank a few other people,  Huw Evan for doing the role of Show secretary., Tony Brown for the role of Show Manager. Also big thanks must go to Tracy Allen & Kayleigh Allen and Tracy’s mum Bet for the lovely lunch and refreshments they served through out the day.

One final thank to David Allen for obtain sponsorship for the show.

Hope to see you all next year
